What will you learn on the EUSR Category 1 & 2 Combined Open Course?
This course is designed to provide you with the following knowledge and skills:
- Understanding relevant legislation and its relation to using equipment such as CAT and Genny
- Explaining the purpose of the CAT and Genny in relation to construction works
- Carrying out on-site surveys of existing services and recognising the different types of surveys available
- Wearing the correct PPE required for workers
- Identifying different services from site plans and in-situ in the ground
- Recognising the hazards and risks of working around existing underground services
- Understanding the different functions of the CAT and their meanings
- Understanding the different functions of the Genny and their meanings
- Applying safe digging practices around underground services, including digging trial holes and correctly supporting excavations
- Understanding BSI PAS 128 and the different survey types under this standard
- Dealing with damaged services and recognising the implications of service strikes
- Identifying different soil types when excavating and recognising the dangers of collapse
- Understanding how vibration and water ingress affect the stability of an excavation
- Ensuring correct segregation when working around excavations
- Complying with environmental requirements regarding the storage of excavated soil
- Selecting and using appropriate tools for excavation works
