What will you learn on the EUSR Category 1 & 2 Combined Open Course?

This course is designed to provide you with the following knowledge and skills:

  • Understanding relevant legislation and its relation to using equipment such as CAT and Genny
  • Explaining the purpose of the CAT and Genny in relation to construction works
  • Carrying out on-site surveys of existing services and recognising the different types of surveys available
  • Wearing the correct PPE required for workers
  • Identifying different services from site plans and in-situ in the ground
  • Recognising the hazards and risks of working around existing underground services
  • Understanding the different functions of the CAT and their meanings
  • Understanding the different functions of the Genny and their meanings
  • Applying safe digging practices around underground services, including digging trial holes and correctly supporting excavations
  • Understanding BSI PAS 128 and the different survey types under this standard
  • Dealing with damaged services and recognising the implications of service strikes
  • Identifying different soil types when excavating and recognising the dangers of collapse
  • Understanding how vibration and water ingress affect the stability of an excavation
  • Ensuring correct segregation when working around excavations
  • Complying with environmental requirements regarding the storage of excavated soil
  • Selecting and using appropriate tools for excavation works
